One PhD position in bioorganic chemistry / chemical biology is available at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark. Application deadline: 25 May 2020. Starting date of the position will be 1 July 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Epigenetics most often refer to processes, such as enzymatic modifications of DNA and numerous post-translational modifications of the associated histone proteins that lead to the transfer of genetic information from generation to generation, without changes in the underlying sequence of DNA. To understand the enormous intricacy of the epigenetic language it is necessary to deepen our knowledge, at the atomic level, of biomolecular recognition of post-translational modifications of histones.
As a PhD student, you will work on the partially ERC-funded project that aims to provide the most comprehensive and complete understanding of biomolecular recognition processes in epigenetics that play key roles in human health and disease. You will apply modern chemical biology tools in investigations of post-translational modifications of histone proteins and you will examine how such modifications influence the complex nucleosome structure.
Specific Requirements
• MSc in chemistry;
• Experience with organic chemistry;
• Experience with peptide or protein research is an advantage;
• Strong motivation and interest in working at the interface between chemistry and biology;
• Excellent skills in written and spoken English.

Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.
The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
