The Section of Chemical Engineering (ChE) , Department of Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Environmental Technology (KBM), University of Southern Denmark, (SDU) invites applications for a Postdoc position within the area of metal nanoparticle processing development and optimization for sustainable production and recycling for a period of one year with the possibility of extension. The position is linked to the project 3R – Recycle, Reuse and Reduce of materials from fuel cells and electrolyzers.
The targeted starting date for the position is 1st of October 2020.
The position offers a chance to share the expertise of ChE within the fields of material synthesis and characterisation, electrochemistry, energy conversion and technical development on material recycling and critical material circular economy.

Job description
A successful candidate will get a chance to partake in research and collaboration with the scientific as well as commercial community in the field of catalyst metal nanoparticle recycling and synthesis and contribute to research within applied science.
The main tasks include the following four activities:

The candidate shall have a PhD degree or equivalent in chemistry / chemical engineering / material science / physical chemistry /nanotechnology / metallurgy or similar field.
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate, with good research background and practical engineering experience, a proven record of publications in international peer reviewed journals and who communicates well in an international environment. The candidate must be able to carry out independent, systematic and rigorous research and engineering work, which is clearly aligned with the overall project activity.

Requirements for the position
Employment as a postdoctoral fellow for this position requires a PhD-degree within in chemistry, material science or a closely related field.
Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.
Shortlisting may be used. Shortlisted applicants will be assessed by an assessment panel.
As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, the applicant may be called for interview.
Conditions of employment
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

- Reaction condition validation and mechanism interpretation
- Reaction, separation and purification process optimization and upscaling
- Entire process structure evaluation, waste and recyclability assessment

- proton exchange membrane fuel cell and electrolyzer catalyst syntheses/characterization
- Polymer processing / development
- Catalytic body preparation, characterization or structure development (electrochemical conversion, emission control or petroleum chemistry)
- Industrial catalysis
- Heterogeneous catalysis and reaction characterization
- Wet (precious) metal chemistry
