Odense M

The Protein Research Group (Professor Ole Nørregaard Jensen) at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Odense invites applications for a three-year postdoctoral research position within the field of chromatin biology and proteomics.

The research project entails the development and application of ion mobility spectrometry (e.g. FAIMS) and tandem mass spectrometry for detailed characterization of chromatin binding proteins involved in epigenetic and transcriptional regulation of DNA. The main focus will be on the development of bioanalytical technologies for detailed characterization of chromatin binding proteins and their post-translational modifications.

You will be part of an international and dynamic research team. You will be motivated to use advanced ion mobility, mass spectrometry and computational tools and develop new approaches to investigate regulatory events in chromatin biology. You will be responsible for implementing FAIMS based technologies for high-sensitivity quantitative studies of proteins and their dynamic post-translational modifications. You will manage independent research projects and assist in the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.

The position is to be filled by 1 October 2020 or soon thereafter. Application deadline: 10 August 2020.

Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with excellent communication skills.

For consideration, applicants must have:
• A recent PhD degree in biochemistry, protein science/proteomics, analytical biochemistry or a similar field
• Demonstrated experience in experimental protein biochemistry and mass spectrometry
• Interest in the study of bioanalytical technologies and their applications in chromatin biology
• Publications in high-quality international peer-reviewed journals
• Excellent English speaking, reading and writing skills.

In addition, applicants with one or more of the following types of experience will be preferred:

• Working experience with LC-MS/MS and ion mobility spectrometry (e.g. FAIMS)
• Experience with biochemical characterization of chromatin and the chromatin proteome
• Advanced knowledge of physical chemistry and bioanalytical instruments
• Computational proteomics and data analysis, including R scripting.

The Jensen laboratory is part of the Protein Research Group and offers a strong international research environment in protein chemistry, biomolecular mass spectrometry, and computational proteomics with focus on elucidating the functional roles of dynamic post-translational modifications of proteins. The VILLUM Center for Bioanalytical Sciences at SDU and the national PRO-MS research infrastructure provides world-class facilities for proteomics and mass spectrometry research, including Orbitrap mass spectrometers (Eclipse, Lumos, Exploris).

Recent publications on FAIMS, proteomics and chromatin biology by the ON Jensen group include Shliaha et al (2020) Anal. Chem. 92(3) 2364.2368; Radzisheuskaya et al (2019) Nat. Struct. Mol. Biol. (26)11 999-1012; Tvardovskiy et al (2017) Nucleic Acids Res. 45(16):9272-9289.
