SDU Game Development and Learning Technology and SDU Health Informatics and Technology, part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applications for two 2-year Postdoc positions in the area user-operated audiometry, an interdisciplinary field consisting of software, hardware and audiology. The starting date for the position is as soon as possible in 2020, and it will be agreed with the successful candidate. Application deadline is 30. September, 2020.

Research environment
The candidates will be integrated in the units SDU Game Development and Learning Technology and SDU Health Informatics and Technology that together form strong research capabilities within user-centered innovation and healthcare technology development. SDU Game Development and Learning Technology do research on technologies for gaming and learning such as physical interactive technologies, motivational factors, robots for learning and human interfaces. We work on contexts within education, training, rehabilitation and social technologies. SDU Health Informatics and Technology’s core competencies are research, innovation, and education within the field of health technology such as data-driven health technology, training and rehabilitation technology, sensor technology, eHealth, user involvement, technology assessment, and healthcare ecosystems. Both units solve challenging real-world problems together with end-users. We are located in Odense and have state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities.

Job description
We are looking for candidates to contribute to a newly started project on user-operated audiometry, funded by Innovation Fund Denmark and the William Demant Foundation. Within the project, the selected candidates will be working mainly on either self-test algorithms and software development (Postdoc A) or equipment and testing environment (Postdoc B). The work will be in close collaboration with the Clinical Institute at the University of Southern Denmark and Odense University Hospital as well as the partner companies.

Postdoc A will be engaged in the development of interactive user-operated audiometry software with regard to both frontend and backend. Focus will be on high usability for both patients and professionals as well as data security and integration with existing audiometry platforms.

Postdoc B will be engaged in delivering testing equipment and defining implementable physical testing environments.

In the application, the candidates are requested to state which of the two positions is preferred.

Profile and requirements

The candidates are expected to have scientific qualifications at PhD level and a Master of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, Audiology or another relevant master.

The ideal candidates:

  • have knowledge and practical experience within one or more of the following:
    • User-centered software design and development
    • Data science and statistical analysis
    • Digital signal processing and acoustics
    • Technological development of hearing aids or systems for audiometry
    • Audiology
    • Usability testing and user experience analysis

  • have adequate communication skills in English speaking and writing as well as basic Danish speaking
  • are able to research complex theoretical knowledge and communicate this clearly and at an easily understandable way for all levels in an industrial organization.
  • are open minded and able to challenge project partners, facilitate workshops and couple theory with practice
  • are ambitious, well-motivated and hardworking
  • have the ability of working independently and has a strong sense of responsibility
  • are flexible and willing and able to work as part of a team
  • have a positive attitude with a good sense of humour
  • are able and willing to bridge university and industry environment
  • have teaching experience

Conditions of employment
Employment as a postdoc requires scientific qualifications at PhD level. Employment as a postdoc is temporary and will cease without further notice at the end of the period.

Research will be predominant in the position. Teaching assignments can be agreed individually. Furthermore, other types of assignments may occur to a limited degree. The Faculty determines the distribution of the various assignments. The weighting of the different assignments may vary over time.
