The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in molecular microbiology with focus on molecular host-pathogen interactions during bacterial infections. The position is for two years with the possibility of extension. The expected starting date is 1 October 2020 or soon thereafter. Application deadline: 4 September 2020.
We seek an outstanding scientist with a strong background in molecular microbiology as documented by publications in leading journals. The ideal candidate also possesses outstanding communicative skills as well as an open and collaborative personality. The postdoctoral fellow will become part of a young, dynamic and ambitious team of microbiologists working in diverse areas of clinically relevant molecular microbiology. Within the framework of the newly established Centre for Translational Microbiology the successful applicant will be working together with molecular biologists and clinicians, who all share a profound interest in bacterial pathogens. We study drug resistance and virulence mechanisms in major human pathogens using a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach. The current position will focus on molecular mechanisms underlying pathogenesis of Escherichia coli and other pathogens infecting the human urogenital system.
BMB provides a modern and international environment for education and research at the interface of natural science and health science. The department contains absolute cutting-edge instrumentation for bioanalytical science, such as biological mass spectrometry, super-resolution microscopy and next-generation sequencing. In addition, various experimental infection models are available to study human cell-bacterium interactions and bacterial biofilms.
The successful applicant will become a key member of the Møller-Jensen research group and is expected to:
• Engage in the planning and execution of scientific projects related to the pathogenesis of Escherichia coli and other bacteria infecting the urogenital system. The research will involve the use of next-generation sequencing approaches combined with molecular genetics to identify bacterial virulence factors and characterize their function.
• Participate in supervision of student projects related to the research area.
• Coordinate and prepare scientific manuscripts and grant applications. Excellent scientific writing skills will be required.
• Contribute to teaching activities within the department. A university teaching course will be offered by the university as part of the candidates’ academic career development.
For further information please contact Head of Department Jakob Møller-Jensen, e-mail: [email protected], phone +45 2074 5191.
Application, salary etc.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.
The application must include the following:
• A curriculum vitae including information on previous employment.
• A full list of publications stating the scientific publications on which the applicant wishes to rely.
Shortlisting may be used in the assessment process.
