The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute at University of Southern Denmark in Odense seeks to recruit several faculty members for the centres of Applied AI and Data Science, Biorobotics & Soft Robotics, and Aerial Robotics. The appointment will be as professor, associate professor, or assistant professor depending on academic qualifications. You will contribute to further excellence in the research and education of the centres within the fields, which are described below.
Research environment
The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute is an internationally recognized institute, which has maintained a leading position in robotics for more than three decades. The department is the origin of robotics research in Denmark and has spawned the world-renowned cluster of robotics in Odense with more than 130 robotics companies including Universal Robots and Mobile Industrial Robots. Building on our expertise in robotics and software, we have raised strong research centres in related domains, such as Health Informatics and Energy Informatics, and in recent years, we have also put the department in the lead of drone research.

Job description
SDU Applied AI and Data Science centre
AI and Data Science are central to our activities in Robotics, as well as a broad range of other domains, including medicine, health, and renewable energy. You will interact with a dynamic group of researchers working in interdisciplinary teams on developing potent solutions to societal challenges.

SDU Biorobotics centre
The section comprises a group of active researchers working on a variety of bio-inspired robotics, biorobotics, and soft robotics problems, viewed from an embodied AI perspective, together with excellent facilities for the design and fabrication of novel robotic devices and solutions.

SDU UAS centre
The centre comprises a group of active researchers working on autonomous aerials vehicles, 5G command and control communications, path planning, GNSS, multi-system control and operations, fault tolerance, and system safety viewed from an aerial robotics perspective.
A unique indoor and outdoor development and test environment at Hans Christian Andersen Airport is available to conduct design and test within visual and beyond visual line of sight is available at the local airport for researchers to develop, together with excellent facilities for the design and fabrication of novel robotic devices and solutions.

Conditions of employment
The candidate should have a PhD degree within the mentioned research area.
Employment as an Associate Professor or Professor is a permanent position. Employment as an Assistant Professor is for an initial period of 3 years and will cease without further notice at the end of the period.

We expect
- You to be a good collaborator who can work in a complex multi-stakeholder environment comprising researchers, domain professionals and regulatory bodies, among others.
- You can communicate effectively to and with all stakeholders as necessary.
- For ‘applied AI and data science’ applicants: Preferred applicants will have a clear research track record and evidence of successful funding acquisition, commensurate with the rank applied for, in areas, such as applied machine learning, data science, and applied statistics.
- For ‘biorobotics’ applicants: Preferred applicants will have a clear research track record and evidence of successful funding acquisition, commensurate with the rank applied for, in areas such as swarm robotics; bio-inspired robotics locomotion, control and design; soft robotics, particularly in system-oriented approaches and sensors; neuromechanical control; and sensorimotor learning.
- For ‘aerial robotics’ applicants: Preferred applicants will have a clear research track record and evidence of successful funding acquisition, commensurate with the rank applied for, in areas such as aerial robotics, command and control communications, platform design, development, and test; navigation and path planning, particularly in system-oriented approaches and sensors.
