The SDU Software Engineering Section at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute at University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense invites applications for a 2-year position as Postdoc in Software Engineering in the area of Software Technologies.
Research environment
The research will be linked to several projects in the Software Engineering Section. SDU Software Engineering is a relatively new and growing section focusing on many aspects of software engineering and production from requirements to test as well as data and security across many domains. SDU Software Engineering collaborates intensely with industry, and it is expected that a large part of the research is in collaboration with companies across various domains. We are focusing on building a strong collaborative environment and we are currently expanding with many new positions.
The aim of the position is to build strong knowledge and competencies in software technology for machine learning. This will be done by researching and applying state-of-the-art data and analysis models and tools to real-life problems in collaboration with colleagues and companies.
SDU Software Engineering is focusing on long term employment relations and we will offer good support for the Postdocs’ academic and personal development.

Conditions of employment
Employment as a postdoc requires scientific qualifications at PhD level.
Employment as a postdoc is temporary and will cease without further notice at the end of the period. However, the SDU Software Engineering section is expanding, so there is a good likelihood of possible extension based on performance and availability of funding.
Research will be predominant in the position. Teaching assignments can be agreed individually. Furthermore, other types of assignments may occur to a limited degree. The Faculty determines the distribution of the various assignments. The weighting of the different assignments may vary over time.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.
The position is available starting October 15, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description
- You will conduct research on the use of machine learning and software technology to a number of industry problems. This work includes designing and implementing scalable and robust machine learning pipelines for processing sensor data.
- You will be responsible for the daily supervision of Master and Bachelor students that perform research on this topic.
- You will participate in and help manage national and European research projects (both in collaboration with industry and fundamental).
- You will publish and present your work both at international conferences and in scientific journals with high impact.
- You will assist in writing research grants for various national and European funding agencies (e.g., H2020, DFF, IFD).
Profile and requirements
- You have (or will receive within the next few months) a PhD degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Informatics or equivalent.
- You have published in high-impact conferences and journals in the broad field of data analytics and simulation.
- You are a team player and have strong communication skills.
- You are interested in a longer term commitment in a growing research group
- You are fluent in English, both spoken and written.
- A track record in participating in national and/or European research projects is a plus.
- You have knowledge of and experience with software development and programming
