The Department of Clinical Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for a position as clinical professor or professor in evidence-based medicine and clinical research methodology and as head of Cochrane Denmark and the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine Odense to be filled from January 1, 2021 (or as soon as possible hereafter) and for five years with possibility of extension.
If the applicant applies for a clinical professorship, the position will be combined with a position as consultant at Odense University Hospital (OUH).
The Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine Odense conducts research in evidence-based medicine, offers a research methods consultancy service for clinical and other researchers at SDU and OUH, and provides teaching to medical students (and others) in evidence-based medicine. Cochrane Denmark (until December 31, 2020 known as the Nordic Cochrane Centre) serves as a national and international centre for Cochrane activities and promotion, provides training for researchers conducting Cochrane Reviews, and conducts research relevant to Cochrane reviews. As of January 1, 2021, the two centres will be closely affiliated with joint leadership at University of Southern Denmark, Odense.
Organizational set-up
Cochrane Denmark (CD) and the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine Odense (CEBMO) will function administratively as a single Research Unit (CD/CEBMO) within the Department of Clinical Research, SDU.
The Head of CD/CEBMO will be expected to function both as head of research and of administration and will refer to the Head of the Department of Clinical Research, SDU.
In matters relating to Cochrane, the Head of CD/CEBMO will operate in accordance with a collaboration agreement with Cochrane and report to Cochrane’s Chief Executive Officer.
As Head of Cochrane Denmark, the successful candidate will be expected to:
The intention is to integrate the two centres substantially, and the appointed Head will be expected to formulate a strategy for this process.
A joint Advisory board will be established to serve CD/CEBMO and to advise on the scientific and Cochrane activities.
Research
The professor will be expected to participate in the further scientific and teaching development of the fields both nationally and internationally - in other words:
· To expand the contribution of research in evidence-based medicine and clinical research methodology
· To establish and operate a service function with supervision of master students, PhD students and senior researchers in relation to systematic reviews (e.g. Cochrane Reviews) and meta-analyses.
· To contribute to undergraduate teaching in evidence-based medicine.
· To contribute to PhD courses in, for example, systematic reviews and meta-analysis.
· To contribute to the dissemination of research, evidence-based medicine and clinical research methodology.
Expectations of qualifications
The candidate must have extensive experience or knowledge of the aims, organization and activities of Cochrane and evidence-based medicine and considerable experience in the conduct of Cochrane Reviews or equivalent systematic reviews.
The candidate must have proven leadership skills and the ability to enhance and maintain a centre that facilitates the generation and dissemination of research findings, e.g. in the form of Cochrane Reviews. S/he must have an understanding of the processes, potentials, and facilitators of evidence-based medicine, and a vision for the synergies between Cochrane and evidence-based medicine. It will clearly be an advantage to have documented experience as Head of Research, head of large research projects, or similar leadership positions.
Further, the successful candidate will be expected to have:
· a doctoral degree in a relevant research area for the professorship
· research experience documented by international peer-reviewed journal articles within the fields of research
· a documented record of leadership, teaching experience and teaching skills
· a documented record as supervisor for pregraduat students and phd-students
· a documented record of achieved external funding within the last 5 years
· a clear, ambitious and realistic research plan
· a strategy for the management process of the integration for the two centres
