We are looking for a qualified candidate with an MSc degree in medical science or an MD.
Research environment
The project will be carried out at the Research Unit of Psychiatry, department of Clinical Research, SDU in collaboration with the Nuclear Medicine Dept. of Odense University Hospital.
Project description
Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are a group of complex disorders of neurodevelopment.
At least some forms of autism would be caused by a disproportionately high level of excitation (or weaker inhibition) in neural circuits that mediates language and social behavior (local circuits).
An imbalance between excitation and inhibition could be due to an increase in glutamatergic signaling (excitatory) or reduced inhibitory gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA)ergic signaling.
The purpose of this study is to use in vivo PET imaging to investigate the role of glucose metabolism, dopaminergic and serotonergic neurotransmission system in the brains of patients with ASD underlying the neuropathology of autism and compare them to the population of the healthy aged-matched subjects
For more information please contact prof. Tanja michel ([email protected]) or assoc. prof. Manouchehr Vafaee ([email protected]).
