A two-year postdoctoral position in theoretical and computational biophysics of membranes and membrane proteins is available at PHYLIFE: Centre for Physical Lifesciences (formerly MEMPHYS: Centre for Biomembrane Physics) at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, SDU, Odense. The candidate will be supervised by Associate Professor Himanshu Khandelia and will work in a highly collaborative atmosphere together with theorists and experimental scientists.
Starting date: 1 April 2021 or earliest possible date hereafter. Application deadline: 10 February 2021.
The project revolves around implementing molecular simulations of novel voltage-sensing elements in ion channels and ion pumps. The candidate will collaborate with experimental groups at SDU, University of Aarhus and the University of Texas Medical Centre. There is a possibility to spend some time in experimental laboratories.
The candidate should have a good knowledge of statistical mechanics, good English communication skills and experience with all-atom or coarse-grained molecular simulations. The candidate should be comfortable with programming and the Linux programming environment. Candidates with background in Physics, Physical Chemistry and Engineering are desirable. Candidates with only prior experience in empirical methods like docking or structural bioinformatics are not encouraged to apply. The successful candidate(s) will have access to state-of-the-art supercomputing resources in Denmark and Europe.
SDU offers some of the best postdoctoral salaries in Europe, and the cost of living in Odense is much lower than in the greater Copenhagen area. New foreign employees also benefit from much lower taxes.
