Studiejob - Odense M

We are opening one or more PhD positions at the Danish Centre for Population Research of the Interdisciplinary Centre on Population Dynamics (CPop), Campus Odense. Position starting as soon as possible.

The Centre is part of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences and collaborates with researchers in economics and political science, as well as researchers in other fields including evolutionary ecology, conservation biology, mathematics and data analysis in the Faculty of Sciences, epidemiology, biostatistics, biodemography and health economics in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and literature and media science in the Faculty of Humanities.

It would be desirable if an applicant has (or will soon receive) an M.A. or equivalent degree in Demography, Economics, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Political Science, Policy Analysis, Evolutionary Ecology, Conservation Biology or related field.

An applicant should be strongly committed to interdisciplinary research on population dynamics.

The Centre is looking for applicants with a solid education in or experience with statistical and mathematical methods.

It would be desirable if an applicant is interested in research in one or more of the following areas:
- forecasting mortality and health after age 50 and especially after age 90,
- understanding the causes of inequality of lifespans after age 50 and the characteristics of people with short vs. long lifespans,
- modeling the difference between and the ratio of male and female death and morbidity rates over age, time and population, and/or
- analyzing the dynamics of fertility by adapting methods devised to study the dynamics of mortality.

Furthermore, it would also be desirable if an applicant was interested in statistical methods for analyzing large data sets. Knowledge of SAS or R and of deep learning methods would be useful.

Your employment as a Salaried PhD Research Fellow is governed by the agreement of 10 November 2015 on Graduate Employees in government appendix 5 – protocol on PhD Research Fellows. The scholarship runs for three years.

An application must include:

  • CV
  • Cover letter including research interests
  • Application form (please see below)
  • Certificates/Diplomas (Master’s degree)
  • A project description (max 5 pages of 2400 characters each, including spaces, notes, appendices, bibliography etc.)
  • An abstract for the above project description of no more than 250 words
  • Information on teaching experience or other forms of knowledge communication
  • Information on publications, if any.

All documents not in English, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian must be translated into English.

Applications that are incomplete with regard to the above requirements will not be assessed by the committee.
Applications will be assessed by a committee. When the evaluation committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her.

Shortlisting and tests may be used in the assessment process.

As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, an interview may be requested.
