The Sound Communication and Behaviour group at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a tenure-track position in neuroethology / behavioural neuroscience at the assistant professor level with teaching in animal physiology. We seek an outstanding experimental biologist who takes molecular, genetic and quantitative approaches to studying communication within behavioural neuroscience.

The Sound Communication and Behaviour group studies vocal communication at the interface of acoustics, behavioural neuroscience, biomechanics, robotics and physiology, in a large range of animals from insects to whales. Our new colleague will furthermore join the interdisciplinary scientists in our Department of Biology with expertise in biodemography, biogeochemistry, climate change research, freshwater and marine ecology, ecotoxicology and environmental and conservation biology.

As our new colleague, you will be expected to:

  • Establish and lead your own research area in neuroethology / behavioural neuroscience
  • Conduct externally funded research of the highest international standard
  • Publish research outcomes through international peer-reviewed publications
  • Contribute to teaching undergraduate Animal Physiology and develop other courses at the department
  • Supervise bachelor, master's and PhD students
  • Perform departmental and university services
  • Complete postgraduate teacher training for assistant professors at SDU.

The initial appointment is for a period of six years with the prospect of a performance-based advancement to a tenured position as associate professor. Promotion to the tenured status will involve a review by an international review committee. If the outcome is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as associate professor at the University of Southern Denmark. Qualifications

  • A relevant PhD degree or equivalent qualifications
  • Excellent track record in research and obtaining external funding
  • Experience in under- and postgraduate teaching and supervision
  • Excellent pedagogical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Some experience with outreach activities.

Candidates experienced with taking molecular, genetic, quantitative and bio-imaging approaches will be prioritized. Experience in international research and ability to strengthen national and international collaboration within the research area is also an advantage.
