Odense M
We are opening one or more positions as PostDoc in demography at the Danish Centre for Population of the Interdisciplinary Centre on Population Dynamics (CPop) at the University of Southern Denmark, Campus Odense. Position starting as soon as possible and is a fixed-term position of up to 4 years.
The Centre is part of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences and collaborates with researchers in economics and political science, as well as researchers in other fields including evolutionary ecology, conservation biology, mathematics and data analysis in the Faculty of Sciences, epidemiology, biostatistics, biodemography and health economics in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and literature and media science in the Faculty of Humanities.
One of the prime directions of the Centre’s research is ageing in modern societies and its diverse implications. We study patterns of changing mortality and morbidity, mostly in human populations but also in non-human species. We maintain a strong and unique profile in analytical demography and are expanding to also include more application-oriented research like pension schemes or covid-19 demography.
The Centre is one of the leading teams in the world for demographic modelling and forecasting. The PostDocs are expected to contribute to this research and help us become even stronger. Much of our research is financed by large external grants; our new colleagues are expected to work on these trailblazing projects. Most of this research focuses on mathematical modeling, statistical analysis and forecasting of mortality at older ages. Some of the research concerns short-term forecasting of mortality and morbidity to predict expected deaths and to estimate excess deaths and life years lost by sex, age, and other characteristics in various countries.
You – the applicant
You are a quantitatively minded researcher working with population data, and holding a Ph.D. in demography, economics, actuarial science, public health, epidemiology, statistics, or a related field.
You are interested in applying your mathematical and statistical modelling skills to problems in mortality and morbidity research and demographic forecasting and analysis.
Fluency in programming (e.g. R/python) to conduct research is desirable.
You would want to work with some of the best population registry data in the world.
You thrive in interdisciplinary collaborations, and you can coordinate joint work in such groups.
