The Research Unit of Cardiovascular and Renal Research, Department of Molecular Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a position as professor in Translational Kidney Physiology.

The successful candidate holds an MSc or M.D., a PhD or equivalent degrees in biomedical or pharmaceutical sciences. Applicants with research interests that complement and/or strengthen the on-going research within the department will be preferred. The teaching commitments will be within the educations in Medicine, Biomedicine and Pharmacy and as specified below. The candidate must be able to supervise and support PhD research students.

Research profile and tasks

The main task for the appointed professor will be to establish and head a group that can strengthen biomedical and experimental research in the field of translational kidney physiology and pathophysiology at the University of Southern Denmark. A strong publication record and a strong record within external funding are required.

A profile where translational research and pathophysiological aspects are part of the portfolio will be preferred. A close collaboration with the nearby Odense University Hospital, which is the major hospital in the region (population base of 1,5 million) will be expected. An association with Odense University Hospital can be an option. Other central collaborators may be research groups at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, which are leaders in proteomics, organic chemistry and membrane physics. Collaboration with other groups within the Department of Molecular Medicine will likewise be encouraged.

Research Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold an MSc or MD, PhD, or equivalent in biological sciences, must have proven postdoctoral training, international experience, teaching and supervising experience and must have demonstrated significant research through publications.

Teaching commitments

The teaching commitments will be in physiology, pharmacology and cell biology and the successful applicant will be responsible for teaching and for course management in education within medical and natural sciences at the Faculties of Health Sciences and Natural Sciences. The candidate will be expected to mentor graduate and PhD students, pursuing their Master’s degree and PhD.

Teaching qualifications

The candidate will be expected to possess teaching qualifications corresponding to those obtained as an associate professor.

Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

  • a teaching portfolio
  • a research plan detailing the candidate’s ideas and plans for her/his future research work.

Applications that are incomplete with regard to the above-mentioned requirements will not be assessed.

Shortlisting may be used.

The shortlisted applications will be assessed under the existing Appointment Order for universities and will be assessed by an independent and external assessment committee. This committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.

When the assessment committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her.
