Odense M
We are opening a position as associate professor in demography at the Danish Centre for Polulation Research at the Interdisciplinary Centre on Population Dynamics (CPop) at the University of Southern Denmark, Campus Odense.
The position is vacant from January 1, 2022.
The Centre is part of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences and collaborates with researchers in economics and political science, as well as researchers in other fields including evolutionary ecology, conservation biology, mathematics and data analysis in the Faculty of Sciences, epidemiology, biostatistics, biodemography and health economics in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and literature and media science in the Faculty of Humanities.
One of the prime directions of the Centre’s research is ageing in modern societies and its diverse implications. We study patterns of changing mortality and morbidity, mostly in human populations but also in non-human species. We maintain a strong and unique profile in analytical demography and are expanding to also include more application-oriented research like pension schemes or covid-19 demography.
The Centre is one of the leading teams in the world for demographic modelling and forecasting. The new Associate Professor is expected to contribute to this research and help us become even stronger. Much of our research is financed by large external grants; our new colleague is expected to work on these trailblazing projects as well as developing her or his own projects.
The Centre currently has little teaching obligations but we plan to establish a teaching program in demography and the associate professor is expected to help plan this and later to teach here.
You – the applicant
You have an outstanding research profile in statistical and/or mathematical analysis and experience in demographic research, e.g. the study of lifespan inequalities, forecasting and mortality analysis.
You have a background in demography or related quantitative disciplines such as statistics, economics, actuarial science, mathematics, public health, or epidemiology.
You have strong abilities in the statistical and/or mathematical analysis of population dynamics, including mortality.
Fluency in programming (e.g. R/python) to conduct research is desirable.
You have a Ph.D. in, and some further academic or equivalent professional experience of demography, especially mathematical demography, economics, econometrics, statistical analysis, actuarial science, epidemiology or a related field.
You have an outstanding research and publication track record, and preferably also experience in attracting research funding.
You would want to work with some of the best population registry data in the world.
You thrive in interdisciplinary collaborations, and you can coordinate joint work in such groups.
