Odense M
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (IMADA) at the university of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for an associate professor in applied algorithmics.
We are interested in candidates with strong expertise in algorithmic techniques and the trade-offs involved in designing correct, efficient, and implementable algorithms. The department also greatly values applicants’ ability to connect and cooperate with areas outside of computer science, e.g. chemistry or biology.
The ideal candidate
We are interested in candidates with excellent academic skills and proven performance in one or several of the following research areas:
• Algorithm Design and Algorithm Engineering
• Generic Programming
• Algorithmic Cheminformatics
• Graph Transformation.
Ideally, the candidate also has a proven ability to form and develop professional networks and to engage with external partners and stakeholders from industry and academia.
Our new colleague
• Is a computer scientist holding a PhD in a research area listed above
• Has a strong record of research at a high international level with respect to academic age
• Can teach and advise in computer science at all levels, including a broad range of core computer science subjects at the undergraduate level and has experience from teaching at different levels of a computer science degree.
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Danish is not a requirement: more English than Danish is used when teaching in computer science, and more than half of the faculty members in computer science have international backgrounds. Our new colleague will be offered Danish courses by the university.
The proposed starting date is summer 2021. Application deadline: 11 April 2021.
For further information, please contact Professor Daniel Merkle at [email protected].
Based in Odense, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers an inclusive and international working environment with state-of-the-art facilities as well as a strong tradition for collaboration across departments and faculties, and with other educational institutions, municipalities, and industries. The degrees offered by the department include bachelor, master's, and PhD in computer science, and a master in data science.
Application, salary etc.
Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.
Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. When the expert committee issues its assessment, the applicants will be sent the portion of the assessment pertaining to them personally.
The application must include:
• A curriculum vitae
• A full list of publications
• Copies of all publications on which the applicant wishes to be evaluated
• A brief survey of the applicant's most important research results and research plans for the next three years
• A teaching portfolio.
Shortlisting may be used in the assessment process.
Incomplete applications and applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.
An interview may be included as a part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications.
Applications must be submitted electronically using the link "Apply online". Attached files must be in Adobe PDF or Word format. Each box can only contain a single file of max. 10 Mb. We strongly recommend that you read How to apply before you apply.
Since not all members of the appointment committee are Danish-speaking, it is recommended that your application is submitted in English.
The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
