The Department of Clinical Research and the Cardiovascular and Renal Research Unit, Department of Molecular Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark invite applications for a five year position as professor in Translational Cardiology with the possibility of extension.

It will be a 50% part-time position for the first three years after which a full time position can be negotiated.

The successful candidate holds an M.D. and a PhD. Applicants with research interests that complement the on-going research with clinical departments will be preferred. The teaching commitments will be within educations in Medicine as specified below. The candidate must be able to supervise and support medical and PhD research students.

Research profile and tasks

The main task for the appointed professor will be to establish and lead a group that can strengthen biomedical experimental and clinical research in the field of Translational Cardiology at the University of Southern Denmark and Odense University Hospital. A strong publication record and a strong record within external funding are required.

A profile where translational research, including animal models, and pathophysiological mechanistic aspects are part of the portfolio will be preferred. Integration into Odense University Hospital, which is the major hospital in the region (population base of 1,5 million) will be expected. Ability to perform clinical work will be expected. Other central collaborators may be research groups at the Faculty of Science, which are leaders in proteomics, organic chemistry and membrane physics. Likewise collaboration with other groups within the Department of Molecular Medicine will be encouraged.

Research Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold an MD and PhD, must have proven postdoctoral training, teaching and supervising experience and must have demonstrated significant research through publications.

Teaching commitments

The teaching commitments will be in cardiovascular medicine and pharmacology. The candidate will be expected to mentor graduate and PhD students, pursuing their Master’s degree and PhD.

Teaching qualifications

The candidate will be expected to possess teaching qualifications corresponding to those obtained as a an associate professor.

Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

  • a research plan detailing the candidate’s ideas and plans for her/his future research work.

Shortlisting may be used.

The shortlisted applications will be assessed under the existing Appointment Order for universities and will be assessed by an independent and external assessment committee. This committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.

When the assessment committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her.
