The Research Unit of User Perspectives and Community-based Interventions, Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applications for a position as professor in user perspectives.

The position runs from January 1, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Unit is one of seven Research Units at the Department of Public Health. The Unit includes two research groups: User Perspectives and Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy, respectively. The open position is within User Perspectives.

Research profile and tasks

The main task for the new professor will be to strengthen and promote research in user perspectives, including research in the practice of user involvement, in health research, and in health education. A strong publication record and significant experience in raising external funding is required.

Collaboration with Odense University Hospital - the major hospital in the region (population base of 1,5 million) - will be encouraged and may include association with the hospital. Likewise, collaboration with other hospitals and municipalities in Denmark, and research units within the Department of Public Health will be encouraged. Establishment of international collaborations of benefit to the unit and the department is expected as well.

Research qualifications

The successful candidate must hold an MDSc, PhD, or equivalent in health sciences, must have proven significant teaching and supervision experience and must have demonstrated significant research through publications. Applicants with research interests that complement the ongoing research within the department will be preferred.

Teaching commitments

The teaching commitments will be in health science, user perspectives, research methodology, or patient interaction with the health care system , depending on the applicant’s specialties, and the successful applicant will be responsible for teaching of master students at the Faculty of Health Sciences. The candidate will be expected to mentor, supervise, and support junior colleagues, graduate and PhD students, pursuing their Master’s and PhD degrees.

Teaching qualifications

The candidate will be expected to possess teaching qualifications corresponding to those obtained as an associate professor.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their own assessment by the university. Applications may be shortlisted.

• A motivation letter
• A detailed CV
• Degree certificates (i.e. PhD- or DMSc-diploma)
• A complete and numbered list of publications
• 10 scientific peer-reviewed publications considered by the applicant to be the most important for this position. Please notice that one pdf.- or docx.-file must be attached for each publication.
• A teaching portfolio detailing the candidate’s prior teaching experience, teaching skills, and teaching philosophy
• A research plan detailing the candidate’s ideas and plans for her/his future research work.

Incomplete applications with regard to the above-mentioned requirements will not be assessed.

Danish is not required initially however, must be mastered within the first two years of employment. In cooperation with the language centre “Lærdansk”, SDU offers specialised language courses.
