Odense M

The research team led by Erik Hedegård at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark (Odense) invites applications for a PhD position. The PhD subject will concern development of quantum chemical methods for transition metals with particular focus on metals embedded in into larger environments (e.g. proteins, enzymes, condensed phases or materials). Application deadline: 25 July 2021.

We are looking for outstanding and highly-motivated candidates with a master’s degree in chemistry, preferably with specialization in physical and theoretical chemistry. Experience with theory development and implementation of quantum mechanical methods is an advantage. The selected candidate will join a dynamic and curiosity-driven research group and is expected to work in close collaboration with other research teams both at the department and internationally.

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy offers a stimulating research environment, with research topics ranging from drug-discovery, bio-inorganic and bio-organic synthetic chemistry to material science.

The appointment will be for a term of three years. The exact starting date is flexible, but expected to be in the summer or autumn 2021. Funding for travel to conferences, workshops and PhD-schools is available.

Application, salary etc.
Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.

The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
