The Center for Life Cycle Engineering at the Department of Green Technology, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for a postdoc or assistant professor position (depending on qualifications of the candidates) in Sustainability in the Built Environment. This position is available from September 1, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Built environment stocks play multiple roles in human development and societal metabolism: they provide the physical space for our daily activities, drive the construction materials demand and cycle, entail temporal and spatial lock-ins on operational energy use and emissions, and represent an extensive reservoir of secondary materials that can be recovered at the end of life. Thus, buildings and infrastructure are at the core of both circular economy and climate change mitigation. This candidate is expected to contribute to automating built environment stocks characterization and informing circular and low carbon construction transition.

Qualifications
The successful candidates should have a PhD degree in industrial ecology, civil and architectural engineering, environmental engineering, geoinformatics and remote sensing, or the like. Experience with quantitative sustainability assessment such as material flow analysis is a plus. Good command of analytical expertise, geodata management, and/or programming knowledge (Python and similar) are beneficial.

Ability to work in an international multidisciplinary environment is an advantage. A collaborative mindset and proven track record is an advantage. Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills as well as an excellent command of the English language (both written and spoken) are desired.

SDU Life Cycle Engineering
The successful candidates will be affiliated with the SDU Life Cycle Engineering, which is acknowledged for its unique research on global, holistic, and systems integration of agriculture, energy, and materials sectors. The Department of Green Technology is located in Odense, the main campus of the University of Southern Denmark. Odense is a fast-growing international community with an open Scandinavian culture, affordable housing and living costs.

The position is primarily funded by an Independent Research Fund Denmark project through its Green Transition thematic funding, in which collaboration with other Danish partners (e.g., Aalborg University and the University of Copenhagen) and international partners are expected.

Further information about this position is available from Professor Gang Liu, [email protected]. If you experience technical problems you must contact [email protected].
