The Ravnskjaer group is located in the Functional Genomics & Metabolism Research Unit, at Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, SDU. The research unit currently hosts seven independent research groups focusing on various aspects of functional genomics with focus on gene regulatory mechanisms controlling cellular identity, differentiation, and metabolism. Our unit constitutes an ambitious, international, and highly dynamic working environment. The unit and the department have state-of-the-art facilities for next generation sequencing, single-cell transcriptomics, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, metabolomics, bioimaging and transgenic mouse work. Strategic research alliances exist with regional hospitals.

Research Project and Role
As graduate student in the Ravnskjaer group you will be engaged in an interdisciplinary and highly ambitious project covering hepatocellular plasticity in human NASH. You will interact and collaborate closely with other researchers in our unit and be affiliated with the ATLAS Center of Excellence in which we are founding partners.

The successful candidate will be responsible for single-cell and spatially resolved, NGS-based investigations of human liver tissue from NAFLD patients at different disease stages. The studies will focus on crosstalk between cell types at different disease stages and during disease regression.

Qualifications/requirements
We are seeking highly motivated, dedicated, and ambitious candidates with:

  • A Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biomedicine, Computational Biomedicine or similar
  • Documented experience with NGS data analysis, preferably single-cell or spatial transcriptomics data analysis
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills and an interest in working in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Application, salary etc.
Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.

The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
