The Research Unit of Cancer and Inflammation, Department of Molecular Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applications for a position as professor in Molecular Oncology.
Research profile and tasks
The main task for the new professor will be to establish and head a group that can promote experimental research in oncology. The Department wants to strengthen research in the fields of functional understanding of tumor-associated antigens, including cancer/testis antigens and the use of epigenetic drugs for modulation of the tumor microenvironment. A strong publication record and significant experience in raising external funding will be required.
Collaboration with Odense University Hospital - the major hospital in the region (population base of 1,5 million) - will be encouraged and may include association with the hospital. Likewise, collaboration with other groups within the Department of Molecular Medicine will be encouraged. Other central collaborators may be research groups at the Faculty of Natural Sciences. These groups are leaders in proteomics, organic chemistry, and membrane physics. Establishment of strong international collaborations of benefit to the unit and the department is expected as well.
Research qualifications
The successful candidate must hold an MD, PhD, or equivalent in biological sciences, must have proven significant teaching and supervising experience and must have demonstrated significant research through publications. Applicants with research interests that complement the on-going research within the department will be preferred.
Teaching commitments
The teaching commitments will be in immunology, physiology, pharmacology, or biochemistry, depending on the applicant’s specialities, and the successful applicant will be responsible for teaching of medical and natural science students at the Faculty of Health Sciences and at the Faculty of Natural Sciences in a limited number of hours. The candidate will be expected to mentor, supervise, and support graduate and PhD students, pursuing their Master’s and PhD degrees.
Teaching qualifications
The candidate will be expected to possess teaching qualifications corresponding to those obtained as an associate professor.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their own assessment by the university. Applications may be shortlisted.

• A teaching portfolio detailing the candidate’s prior teaching experience, teaching skills, and teaching philosophy
• A research plan detailing the candidate’s ideas and plans for her/his future research work.

Incomplete applications with regard to the above-mentioned requirements will not be assessed.
Danish is not required initially however, must be mastered within the first two years of employment. In cooperation with the language centre “Lærdansk”, SDU offers specialised language courses.
