The Functional Genomics & Metabolism Research Unit, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications from outstanding candidates who are interested in joining our research unit as an independent group leader and tenured associate professor in Functional Genomics from 1 August 2022. Application deadline: 1 April 2022.
We aim to recruit an outstanding, ambitious, and collaborative candidate with a strong research programme in functional genomics, including genome-wide approaches as documented by peer-review publications in premier international journals, contributions to international conferences and the ability to attract external funding. The successful candidate is expected to synergize with the existing groups in the research unit. Furthermore, the candidate will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching at the department’s study programmes: biomedicine, biochemistry and molecular biology, and computational biomedicine. This will also include supervision of PhD-dissertation students for bachelor and master projects. In addition, the associate professor is expected to supervise PhD students and postdocs.
The Functional Genomics & Metabolism Research Unit constitutes an international, ambitious, highly dynamic, and well-equipped working environment. It currently hosts eight independent research groups focusing on various aspects of functional genomics including gene regulatory mechanisms controlling cellular identity, differentiation, and metabolism. In addition, the unit hosts two centres, Center for Functional Genomics and Tissue Plasticity (ATLAS) and Center for Adipocyte Signaling (ADIPOSIGN), both led by Professor Susanne Mandrup.
The Functional Genomics & Metabolism Research Unit and Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology have state-of-the-art facilities for next generation sequencing, single-cell transcriptomics, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, metabolomics, bioimaging, and transgenic mouse work. Strategic research alliances exist with Odense University Hospital (OUH).

- A PhD degree in Life Science, preferably Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Biomedicine
- A strong publication track record with first author publications in leading international journals
- Strong communication and collaborative skills and a desire to work in an interdisciplinary environment
- A strong commitment to teach and supervise students and a documented record of teaching at university level
- A proposed research programme that synergizes with the existing groups in the unit and the department.
