The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy at the University of Southern Denmark invites applicants for a tenure-track position as an assistant professor in inorganic chemistry.
The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is one of four departments at the Faculty of Science, SDU and located in Odense and is focused on fundamental research. The department’s research contributes to new knowledge and solutions with applications in the areas of climate, environment, energy, and health. The department is responsible for the educations in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and physics, as well as the bachelor’s education in pharmacy. The assistant professor will be part of the Section for Chemistry and Pharmacy.
The department wishes to strengthen its profile within experimental inorganic chemistry. The applicant should expand and complement our current activities. Thus, we are seeking an assistant professor who aims to establish an independent research programme, mentor undergraduate and research students and contribute to our educational programmes, especially within chemistry.
A documented interest in the use of advanced experimental in-house characterization techniques, e.g. single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction or large-scale facilities such as synchrotrons and neutron facilities will be considered an advantage. The departmental instrument facilities include powder and single-crystal X-ray diffractometers, mass spectrometry, ESR, as well as solid and liquid state NMR spectrometers.
The successful candidate is expected to teach introductory and advanced inorganic chemistry, including X-ray diffraction, as well as our undergraduate chemistry courses.
The successful applicant is expected to have a PhD and research background within experimental inorganic chemistry. Postdoctoral research experience is strongly preferred. Documented experience with teaching, outreach and/or the ability to attract external funding will be considered an advantage.
We offer:
To gain promotion to associate professor an assistant professor is expected to obtain external funding to support research activities and publish in high impact peer-reviewed journals from research performed at SDU. In addition to these criteria for research excellence, the department expects the candidate to excel at teaching, as documented through teaching evaluations, and to serve on various committees.
The starting date for the position is between 1 September 2022 and 1 January 2023, as the candidate is expected to teach from the Spring semester 2023. Application deadline: 20 April 2022.
For further information please contact Professor Jacob Kongsted on [email protected].
