The Unit of Cardiovascular and Renal Research, Department of Molecular Medicine, invites applications for a full-time associate professor position in renal physiology and pathophysiology. The position is vacant as soon as possible.
We seek individuals who have research expertise that complement existing focus areas of the department. Major research areas of the department within renal physiology and pathophysiology are regulation of blood pressure, renal resistance artery structure and -function, renal epithelial function, electrolyte homeostasis and mechanisms of hypertension and end-organ damage in renal failure and diabetes.
Research profile and tasks The main task of the candidate will be to establish lines of research that strengthen translational and integrative approaches at the molecular, structural or functional levels in renal physiology and pathophysiology within our department.
Close collaborations will be expected within the department, and with the nearby Odense University Hospital. (OUH).
OUH is the main hospital in the region (population of 1,5 million) responsible for diagnoses and treatments within all specialties. Establishment of strong international collaborations of benefit to the unit as well as the department will be expected as well.
Qualifications The successful candidate must hold an M.D., or equivalent M.Sc. in biology, pharmacology or biomedicine or related sciences and a PhD degree. Potential applicants must have proven postdoctoral training, formal pedagogical training (“adjunktpædagogikum” or equivalent) and supervising experience and must have demonstrated significant research through publications.
Special consideration will be given to candidates that demonstrate by publications in peer-review scientific journals a strong background within kidney physiology and -disease and renal control extracellular volume and of blood pressure.
Teaching commitments The successful applicant will hold course responsibility and teach physiology and/or pharmacology to medical, BSc and MSc students at courses provided by the Faculty of Health Sciences. The candidate will be expected to participate in mentoring graduate and PhD students pursuing their Master’s degree and PhD.
