The Research Unit of Sport and Health Science (SHS), Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics, invites applications for a position as postdoc in Physical Activity for School Children to be filled from 1 November 2022 until 30 November 2025.
The candidate will be expected to initiate and conduct research in relation to the research project "Generation Healthy Kids" donated by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
We are looking for candidates working with themes related to the effect of sports and physical activity on physical literacy, well-being and motivation in primary school children. The position focuses on measuring well-being, motivation and physical literacy in school children as well as developing and implementing intervention/program activities in collaboration with sports clubs, sports coaches, sporting associations, schools, teachers and pedagogues.
SHS aims to be recognized in Denmark and internationally as ‘the place to go’ for sport as medicine and the use of physical activity and sports in children and youth for improvements of health profile, fitness status, well-being and learning. The successful candidate will be part of this multidisciplinary research unit team committed to the ambitions, obligations, and values of the University of Southern Denmark and make contributions to the further development of research. The members of SHS have developed a culture of cooperation, and the candidate will be expected to contribute to collaborative projects and exchange of ideas.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

- Evaluation of the effects of a whole system approach intervention on young (age 6-9) school children’s wellbeing, motivation and physical literacy.
- Developing, testing and implementing intervention program activities aimed at promoting physical activity, physical literacy, well-being and general health among young school children in collaboration with sport clubs, sport coaches, sporting associations, school leaders, teachers and pedagogues.
- Development and validation of questionnaire-based measures of well-being, physical literacy, food literacy and motivation for young school children.
The ideal candidate will have
- A PhD degree in Sport Science or Health Promotion
- Research experience related to the broad area of physical activity, physical literacy, well-being and psychometrics
- Experience with and/or motivation for developing, adjusting, collecting and validating questionnaire-based measures for young Danish school children.
- Experience and/or motivation for with collaborating with schools, teachers, sport clubs and associations.
