Postdoc for the Centre for Law, Sustainability & Justice at the Department of Law, University of Southern Denmark
A postdoc position will be available as of 1 September 2022 or by further agreement at the Centre for Law, Sustainability & Justice at the Department of Law, at the University of Southern Denmark. The duration of the position is one year. The place of work is the Odense Campus of the University of Southern Denmark.
At the University of Southern Denmark, we want to create value for and together with society, by working with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, at the Department of Law, we have a vision to participate in shaping and impacting on society of the future and to contribute to creating a sustainable world, e.g. through new and relevant legal research results of high quality.
We have initiated a new research focus concerning legal perspectives related to the SDGs and sustainability in a wider sense. On the basis of SDG 16 and anchored in a new Centre for Law, Sustainability & Justice (CLS&J), we critically explore and challenge various legal and regulatory aspects related to sustainability.
Research at the centre targets three areas:
We welcome applications from applicants who want to help implement our vision. Working with the head of the Centre for Law, Sustainability & Justice and other researchers, you will become a part of our research team forming the mainstay for meeting our ambitions for the Centre.
The postdoc project will form part of a collective research project comprising a comparative analysis of regulatory strategies for handling the climate crisis and the health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The overall project is led by the head of the Centre for Law, Sustainability & Justice and encompasses complementary sub-projects under the overall research question: “How is the regulation of the climate crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic handled by Danish, EU and UN institutions in regard to shaping the conduct of citizens and organisations; what determines societal buy-in; and what are the implications of this for understanding the correlations between SDG 16 and the other SDGs”. The overall project seeks to contribute to knowledge on how social science, natural science (climate) information and health science (COVID-19) information is received, understood, consumed, transformed and applied by decision-makers with regulatory competences; which and how non-judicial linguistic codes advance or impede the legitimacy and understanding of regulatory needs among regulatory and other societal actors; how regulatory needs determined by social, natural and/or health science are transformed into new obligations for citizens, businesses and public organisations; how and whether these new obligations are accepted; and how linguistic codes advance or impede the acceptance.
