At the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) we are looking for a postdoc in Biological Physics. Application deadline: 15 August 2022.
Many cell types are elongated and they spontaneously align with their neighbours. In this respect, they are similar to nematic liquid crystals, complex fluids with orientational order. In a new laboratory at SDU, we study how to control alignment in cells and how to induce regions of misalignment, called topological defects. In particular, we study how topological defects affect the shape and properties of various cell types, in order to understand their biological relevance.
We are looking for a motivated, independent and talented scientist to join this group at SDU as a postdoctoral researcher.
The ideal candidate should have:

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is one of four departments at the Faculty of Science, SDU and is located in Odense. The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is a department focused on basic research. We are happy to move beyond traditional disciplines and work to develop new technologies and sciences across physics, chemistry, pharmacy, mathematics, computer science and biology. The Department’s research thus contributes to new knowledge and solutions with applications in the areas of climate, environment, energy and health.
The department handles research in chemistry, physics and pharmacy along with several interdisciplinary areas, and also houses several major research centres. The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is responsible for the educations in chemistry, medicinal chemistry and physics, as well as the bachelor’s education in pharmacy.
This postdoc position is placed in the Section for Physics.
For any further information about the project and the group, please contact Associate Professor Francesca Serra at [email protected].
