The Centre for Quantum Mathematics (QM) at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a number of two-year positions as postdoctoral fellow with emphasis on Pure Mathematics with relations to Quantum Theory and Climate Models/Weather Models.
The period of the position is 1 December 2022 – 31 July 2024. Application deadline: 31 October 2022.
We are not permitted to directly contact your academic references under any circumstances so please ensure their letters have reached us by the deadline. The application requirements are detailed at the end of this advertisement.
The QM centre is located at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Faculty of Science on the international campus in Odense, Denmark. QM is newly established with the ambition to create a highly international and interdisciplinary group within a broad spectrum of pure mathematics and mathematical physics. Odense is a fast-growing international community with an open Scandinavian culture, affordable housing and living costs.
We are seeking candidates with a strong research background in pure mathematics and its relation to quantum theory, in particular with reference to the current ERC-SYNERGY Grant ReNewQuantum which involves advanced mathematical tools such as Topological Quantum Field Theory, in particular Quantum Chern-Simons Theory, Fukaya Categories, Wall crossings and Riemann-Hilbert problems, a combination of which forms a deep mathematical approach to the theory of Resurgence. The candidate is furthermore expected to take part in a joint research project between Danish Meteorological Institute and Centre for Quantum Mathematics. The aim is to develop new quantum mathematical climate and weather models which can be tested on some of the many quantum computing platforms which are currently emerging. These codes will draw in part from some of the latest advances in the above-mentioned ReNewQuantum project. The codes will be tested on both current classical superclusters emulating quantum computers, on several of the new cloud services provided by quantum computer hardware developers and on actual physical installations run by various of the centre’s hardware collaborator teams.
Job description / requirements
A successful candidate will drive internationally competitive research collaborating with the world community in the field. The candidate must have a PhD degree in mathematics or theoretical physics.
The candidates must furthermore have an emerging research track in the field. We are seeking highly motivated candidates who work and communicate well in an international team. The candidates must be able to carry out independent and rigorous work at top international level.
