Within the focused research project “Hybrid Quantum Chemistry on Hybrid Quantum Computers”, recently funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, we are seeking two postdoctoral fellows to work on the development of quantum chemical methods and software for the prediction of molecular properties on hybrid classic-quantum architectures involving IBM’s NISQ quantum computers.
The focused research project on “Hybrid Quantum Chemistry on Hybrid Quantum Computers” is a joint effort of the research groups of Professor Stephan P. A. Sauer at the Department of Chemistry at University of Copenhagen (UCPH), Professor Sonia Coriani at the Department of Chemistry at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and Professor Jacob Kongsted at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU).
Two four-year postdoctoral positions are available at SDU within the research consortium, with expected start date 1 January 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. Application deadline: 28 October 2022.
The “Hybrid Quantum Chemistry on Hybrid Quantum Computers” project is at the border of quantum computing and quantum chemistry. The candidates should have a PhD in Quantum Information Science or Physics or Computer Science or Mathematics or Chemistry and documented prior experience with either quantum computing or quantum chemistry. Experience with quantum computing software libraries like IBM’s Qiskit would be an advantage. Applicants not familiar with quantum chemistry are expected to learn about it during their employment.
After a startup period, eight early career researchers in total (two postdocs and one PhD student at both UCPH and DTU, and two postdocs at SDU) will work jointly on different parts of this common project. The focused research project thus provides a vibrant scientific environment.
The postdoc’s duties will include research within Quantum Chemistry on Quantum Computers as well as teaching. The position may also include performance of other duties and involves regular travels to the two other universities participating in the project.
Inquiries about the position can be made to Professor Jacob Kongsted ([email protected]).
Application, salary etc.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.
The application must include the following:
• A curriculum vitae including information on previous employment.
• A full list of publications stating the scientific publications on which the applicant wishes to rely.
Shortlisting may be used in the assessment process.
Incomplete applications and applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.
To qualify you must have passed a PhD or equivalent. Applications will be assessed by an expert assessor/committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the university.
The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
Applications must be submitted electronically using the link "Apply online". Attached files must be in Adobe PDF or Word format. Each box can only contain a single file of max. 10 Mb. We strongly recommend that you read How to apply before you apply.
