Odense M
The Danish Centre for Population Research at the Interdisciplinary Centre on Population Dynamics (CPop) is opening one or more positions of associate professor(s) in demography. The Centre is based at the University of Southern Denmark, Campus Odense. The(se) position(s) is (are) vacant as soon as possible or from 1.6.2023.
Job description
The Centre is part of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences and collaborates with researchers in economics and political science, as well as researchers in other fields including evolutionary ecology, conservation biology, mathematics and data analysis in the Faculty of Sciences, epidemiology, biostatistics, biodemography and health economics in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and literature and media science in the Faculty of Humanities.
One of the prime directions of the Centre’s research is the ageing in modern societies, lifespan inequalities, and its diverse implications. We study patterns of changing mortality and morbidity, mostly in human populations but also in non-human species. We maintain a strong and unique profile in analytical demography, demographic modelling, and forecasting, and are expanding to also include more application-oriented research. We are also interested in widening our research portfolio to other dimensions of population studies such as fertility, family, migration, intergenerational demography, and inequalities in health.
The ideal candidate is expected to have a strong academic profile in one or more of the above- mentioned areas, strong analytical and methodological profile and/ or wider interdisciplinary theoretical focus on causes and consequences of the above-mentioned core demographic themes.
Much of our research is financed by large external grants; our new colleague(s) are expected to apply for funding for her or his own projects. They may also contribute to the existing projects.
The Centre is developing a Master program in Population Studies and our new colleague(s) are expected to contribute to the design of the programme, teaching, and contribute otherwise to a successful establishment and operation of the study programme. Thus, substantial teaching experience and motivation to contribute to teaching is an important part of the job.
