The Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics invites applications for a position as professor in implementation and intervention science related to physical activity and health.

The candidate will be expected to initiate and conduct research as well as to teach and supervise bachelor, master and PhD students, enrolled in the programmes of the Faculty of Health Sciences, primarily Sport and Health.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong national and international research profile aligned with the department’s strategy. In particular, we are interested in candidates working with themes related to implementation science focusing on physical activity, children and youth. Candidates who have published in relation to organizational and/or other contextual factors impacting implementation issues are especially welcomed.

The successful candidate will be part of Active Living - a multidisciplinary research unit team committed to the strategy and values of the department and of the University of Southern Denmark. Based on health and social science approaches, the research unit generates and disseminates knowledge about the conditions for and significance of lifelong physical activity and movement. The members of Active Living have developed a culture of cooperation, and the candidate will be expected to contribute to collaborative projects, exchange of ideas and mentoring both senior and junior researchers.

The current research lines of Active Living include, but are not restricted to:

  • Social science and implementation research related to physical activity and human movement
  • The role of environments in promoting physical activity and health
  • Physical activity, learning and well-being of children and young people
  • Physical activity and people with disabilities
  • Motives and habits of physical activity

The ideal candidate has:

  • A PhD degree within health sciences
  • Research experience related to the area of physical activity and health, documented by a sustained and sizable research output in national and international peer-reviewed publications
  • A documented record of ample teaching and supervision experience at all levels relevant for the department’s portfolio of study programmes
  • A solid track-record on management of research projects and groups
  • Experience with supervision of PhD studies
  • Experience and success with external funding
  • Competencies to engage in knowledge exchange activities and collaborations with and for the wider society
  • Solid experience with and motivation for study programme and/or course development and coordination
  • Experience with participating in department, faculty and university committees
  • Experience with board services and chairmanships

Within a three-year period, non-Danish-speaking applicants will be expected to master the Danish language at a level which enables her/him to read Danish exam papers and administrative documents and within five years enables her/him to teach in Danish. The department offers free language classes and a reduction in workload to support non-Danish speaking employees.

Salary and terms of employment

The successful applicant for the position will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
