At the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology we are seeking a motivated and independent postdoctoral candidate with a keen interest in bacterial stress responses and/or high-throughput chemical screening methods for a two-year position in the group of Associate Professor Clare Kirkpatrick. The position should start on 1 August 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter (open for negotiation).
The position is available as part of a Carlsbergfondet Young Researcher Fellowship on signal-jamming approaches to counteract environmental sensing two-component systems in bacteria. The project will focus on chemical-genetic screening of compound libraries for small molecules which interfere with signalling through the two-component system ChvIG in Caulobacter crescentus and eventually in other alpha-proteobacteria.
The successful candidate will take charge of chemical library choice, screen design and execution, validation and follow-up investigation of selected hits and their molecular mechanism of action. We anticipate that in the long term this project will open new lines of investigation into anti-virulence (rather than classical antimicrobial) strategies for combating pathogenic bacteria, by blocking signals which allow them to perceive the presence of host cells and initiate virulence gene expression.
The group is part of the Research Unit for Molecular Microbiology which offers a collaborative and international research environment with fully equipped shared laboratories including our own chemical screening platform. Opportunities to participate in undergraduate teaching, and co-supervise undergraduate or Master-level projects, are also available.

The application must include the following:
• A curriculum vitae including information on previous employment.
• A full list of publications stating the scientific publications on which the applicant wishes to rely.
•A copy of one of the candidate’s manuscripts or publications that they consider to be their most significant scientific contribution.
• A statement on why they consider that manuscript/publication to be their most significant scientific contribution (not to exceed 250 words).
Shortlisting may be used in the assessment process.
Incomplete applications and applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.
To qualify you must have passed a PhD or equivalent. Applications will be assessed by an expert assessor/committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the university.

Applications must be submitted electronically using the link "Apply online". Attached files must be in Adobe PDF or Word format. Each box can only contain a single file of max. 10 Mb. We strongly recommend that you read How to apply before you apply.
