A position as Postdoc is vacant at the Laboratory of Professor Moustapha Kassem, Department of Clinical Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and at the Molecular Endocrinology Laboratory (KMEB), Department of Endocrinology, Odense University hospital-Svendborg Hospital (OUH).
The position is limited to 2 years with the possibility of extension and expected to be available from August 1, 2023.
Research tasks
We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work in the field of bone biology, with focus on examining role of bone-secreted proteins in regulation of skeletal homeostasis during aging and systemic energy metabolism.
The applicant will be expected to use genetic mouse models and pharmacological targeting approaches to explore the role of candidate secreted proteins in formation and function of bone and fat tissues.
The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for the planning of the project as well as for data acquisition, preparation and analysis, manuscript writing, and other activities for disseminating the results. Furthermore, the candidate will be expected to apply for research funding from external funding agencies.
The project will be supervised by Professor Moustapha Kassem and Associate Professor Abbas Jafari.
Scientific environment
The official employment will be at the Laboratory of Molecular Endocrinology (KMEB), Odense University Hospital.
The main working place will be at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen.
The laboratory is internationally known for contributions to understanding the biology of Mesenchymal (stromal) Stem Cells and the regulatory mechanisms of skeletal homeostasis.
The Laboratory of Molecular Endocrinology (KMEB) and the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) offer ambitious scientific environments, with many different nationalities represented. KMEB and ICMM aim to produce research with high international impact focusing on the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating cell behavior, in a medical context. Expectations of qualifications
The applicant who is hired must have a ph.d.-degree and documented research experience in on or more of the areas/fields mentioned below:
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
Qualified and highly motivated candidates from all nationalities are encouraged to apply.

- Obtained a PhD in a relevant area, e.g., biological and biomedical sciences, or another closely related discipline.
- Proven experience and knowledge about genetically modified mouse models, as well as cell and molecular biology studies.
- Ability to work structured and independently.
- Good communication skills and high proficiency in English.
- Good collaborative and social abilities.
- Prior experience related to bone and energy metabolism studies in mice with micro-CT and DEXA scanning, digital image analysis, and molecular biology, is considered a plus.
