REHPA, The Danish Knowledge Centre for Rehabilitation and Palliative Care, Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and Odense University Hospital-Svendborg Hospital (OUH), invites applications for a position as associate professor in rehabilitation for life-threatening illnesses.
The position is a combined full-time position with 45% time as associate professor at the Department of Clinical Research, SDU and 55% time as health science researcher at REHPA, OUH.
The applicant will work full-time with research and other tasks at REHPA (see the job description below). The combination of the two positions is considered one function.
Employment will be limited to a period of 5 years with the possibility of prolongation.
About REHPA
REHPA is a national and publicly funded research-based knowledge centre anchored at Nyborg Sygehus, OUH, the Region of Southern Denmark and the Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark.
REHPA contributes to the development of evidence-based practice within the field of rehabilitation and palliative care to the benefit of patients suffering from life-threatening diseases, including their families and carers. REHPA alternates between research, epidemiological mapping, intervention, evaluation, and dissemination using different interdisciplinary designs and methods, exploring rehabilitation and palliative care and how they are organised, integrated, and impact health organisations, professionals and, importantly, everyday life of the affected people. REHPA has a research clinic that delivers clinical rehabilitation and early phase palliative care and conducts research in how rehabilitation and palliative care can help and support under-served groups especially. REHPA’s work environment is characterised by high standards as well as an informal tone among colleagues. REHPA is situated in Nyborg, Funen, Denmark. In addition, REHPA has local office facilities in the other four regions of Denmark. The place of employment will be either REHPAs office in Nyborg, or one of the local offices, with REHPA Nyborg being a secondary place of employment.
The academic position
The job involves research, professional development, research education, teaching, including exams, supervision and assessment work within the field of rehabilitation for people with life-threatening illnesses.

Danish language skills will not be required initially, however, should be mastered within the first 2 years of employment.

The applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

- Research and documentation, primarily in the field of rehabilitation,
- Combination and coordination of rehabilitation and palliative care, including supervision of students and young researchers
- Maintenance and establishment of research collaboration and networks between internal and external collaborators, nationally and internationally
- Facilitation of communication and coordination between research activities and other core activities in REHPA such as the research clinic, knowledge dissemination, documentation, and public sector consultancy
- Knowledge sharing in the form of seminars/webinars, networking, lectures, REHPA homepage etc.
- Contribution to increasing external research funding in accordance with REHPA research funding strategy
The following qualifications will be considered an advantage:
- Educational background in health science (e.g. physiotherapist, occupational therapist, physician, nurse, psychologist) and clinical experience
- Experience with different research-methodology and with quantitative research and/or complex intervention
In addition, good cooperation skills will be expected in order to further the development of research in the areas mentioned above, both interdisciplinary as well as nationally and internationally.
International partners will be an advantage, but not a requirement.
Furthermore, potential applicants will be expected to have:
- A PhD degree or equivalent post-graduate research qualification
- Relevant research experience documented by publications in international peer-reviewed journals
- Relevant clinical experience
- A successful track record in obtaining research funding
Danish language skills will not be required initially, however, should be mastered within the first 2 years of employment.
