The Centre for Nano Optics (www.SDU.dk/nano-optics) at the Mads Clausen Institute, University of Southern Denmark (Odense Campus) seeks a suitable candidate for a 3-year position as a PhD Research Fellow within the area of nonlinear metasurfaces. The prospective starting date is September 15, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is supported by the Villum Experiment (2023-2024, project 50343) and Villum Young Investigator (2021-2026, project 37372) grants.
The proposed project is concerned with theoretical studies and experimental investigations of nonlinear metasurfaces for generating and shaping complex nonlinear signals in both classical and quantum regions at the nanoscale, with the overall goal being to generate and manipulate compact and high-performance high-harmonic light sources.
The project goals include the development of analytical approaches, computational tools, and experimental (fabrication and characterization) techniques for the realization of nonlinear metasurfaces as well as the contribution to further progress in the understanding of physical mechanisms involved in nanoscale light-matter interactions at the single-photon level. The overarching goal is to realize fast compact and efficient nonlinear light sources at room temperature, enabling the efficient harmonic generation with arbitrary wavefronts and realization of on-demand high-dimensional and multiphoton quantum sources.
Potential candidates for the 3-year PhD-scholarship are expected to have a relevant MSc degree and skills in nonlinear metasurfaces, such as the theory of nonlinear optics and metasurfaces (e.g., plasmon resonances, Mie resonances, and bound states in the continuum), advanced electromagnetic modeling of nonlinear metasurfaces (e.g., nonlinear scattering theory), and optical characterization of optical metasurfaces.
