The Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Odense, invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship within the research areas of alcohol use interventions, addiction, and E-mental health.

The postdoc position is for 15 months, starting on the 1st of February 2024 or shortly thereafter.

The Department of Psychology is a vibrant, inclusive workplace hosting an engaged group of faculty, postdocs and PhD students. The department has close collaborations with the Unit of Clinical Alcohol Research at SDU and Odense University Hospital, and its research covers a wide range of health-related topics and methodologies.

The position and the project

The focus of the position is on setting up and pilot-testing a text-messaging intervention for older adults who drink at health-hazardous levels in Denmark. The aim of the study is to investigate, whether different forms of text messages can help the target group with reducing their alcohol consumption. This intervention has previously been pilot-tested in the United States and we have a close collaboration with the work group behind the original intervention. We expect to apply for funding for a full RCT after a successful pilot-phase.

We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious candidate with an interest in the area of interventions for problematic alcohol use, addiction, E-mental health, clinical psychology, and quantitative methods.

The candidate should have experience with project organization, recruitment of participants, and quantitative data analysis.

The successful candidate will work on the project "Text messaging to reduce high-risk alcohol use among older adults" funded by Trygfonden. The successful candidate will join a research group with an expertise in addiction, interventions for problematic alcohol use in older adults, clinical psychology, and quantitative methods, led by Associate Professor Silke Behrendt. The primary place of work will be at the Department of Psychology, University of Southern Denmark, Odense.

Required qualifications

• PhD in psychology, public health, psychiatry or a connected field
• Excellent research track record, including at least two first-authored peer-reviewed publications relevant to addiction, most favorably on digital or conventional interventions for alcohol or substance use
• Fluency in statistical analysis with Stata
• Strong analytical, organizational, recruiting and record-keeping skills
• Experience with RedCap
• Willingness to collaborate with internal and external collaborators as well as support the project's research group members
• Interest in teaching
• Proficiency in spoken and written Danish and English

Employment

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). An evaluation will be performed 3 months after employment.
