The Research Unit of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology (ORL) at the Department of Clinical Research (KI), Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a position as assistant professor in audiology to be filled from 1st July 2024 (or as soon as possible thereafter) for a period of three years.
The successful candidate will join the Technical Audiology Section of the ORL Research Unit, a fast-growing research group working at the intersection of technical and clinical audiology. The group is part of a strong collaborative environment that includes Odense University Hospital, other faculties at SDU as well as private organizations.
Research tasks
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research program related to technical audiology. Possible areas include (but are not limited to) computational audiology, psychoacoustics, speech perception, and multi-sensory processing and interaction. The direction of research will depend on the interests and qualifications of the successful candidate.
The successful applicant will be expected to collaborate with other researchers from the Technical Audiology Section, the ORL Research Unit, the hearing clinic at Odense University Hospital as well as other relevant departments and research units at SDU.
Teaching tasks
The successful candidate will be expected to support the audiology study program at SDU by carrying out teaching duties at both undergraduate and graduate level. The audiology study program has an intake of 35 students at the bachelor level and approximately 20 students at the master level each year.
The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching both introductory and advanced courses related to topics such as mathematics, psychoacoustics, statistics, or basic signal processing for audiologists. (S)he will also be responsible for revising existing and developing new courses. Furthermore, s(he) will be responsible for (co-)supervising bachelor and master projects in audiology.
SDU works actively on developing future teaching methods, for example through e-learning or flipped classrooms. Documented experience with such methods will therefore be an advantage.
Administrative duties
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out some administrative duties related to the organization of the audiology study program.
Qualifications
Ideally, applicants for the position should have the following qualifications:
Employment requires scientific qualifications at PhD level in accordance with the Danish Ministerial Order on job structure for academic staff at universities.
Danish language skills are not required initially but should be mastered within the first 2 years of employment.

Qualifications

- PhD degree in hearing science, technical audiology, acoustic engineering, or a related field
- Research experience as documented by international peer-reviewed journal articles and conference presentations in a related field
- Experience with supervising student projects related to audiology
- Experience with teaching classes or courses related to audiology
