The laboratory of Assistant Professor Maria Peleli-Pedersen and Professor Daniel Ketelhuth at the Cardiovascular and Renal Research Unit, Department of Molecular Medicine, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), is seeking a postdoc to work on a project investigating the role of the gastrotransmitter hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in experimental liver steatosis. The postdoc position is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF).

The position will run for 12 months with the possibility of extension and will be available for start from April 1st, 2024.

Research tasks

The applicant will be expected to conduct his/her research focusing on creating relevant animal models targeting main enzymes involved in H2S synthesis. The applicant should develop his/her project exploring the potential of modulating H2S metabolic pathways to identify novel therapeutic targets against inflammation in the context of hepatic steatosis and cardiometabolic disease.

The postdoc will be responsible for the planning of the project as well as data acquisition, preparation and analysis, manuscript writing and other activities for disseminating the results. Work is also to seek external research funding from external funding agencies.

Expectations of qualifications

The successful applicant must have:

  1. Obtained a PhD in a relevant area, e.g. biological and biomedical sciences, biochemistry, immunology or another closely related discipline; candidates who do not hold PhD but are expected to receive PhD before April 1st are eligible to apply.
  2. Proven experience and knowledge with animal models of disease is a major requirement.
  3. Ability to work structured and independently.
  4. Good communication skills and high proficiency in English.
  5. Good collaborative and social abilities.
  6. Prior experience with human samples and biobanks, bioinformatics, and functional immune assays are considered a plus.
