Skanderborg

Are you fascinated by computational fluid dynamics, optimization and new analysis capabilities? Do you want to learn more about the industrial applications of the physics of fluids? Are you ready to push forward simultaneously industrial and academic research?

Become an Industrial PhD in our Flow Laboratory team
Kamstrup is one of the world's leading manufacturers of intelligent metering solutions for energy and water consumption. The flow meters we produce are based on the ultrasonic time-of-flight principle which ensure accurate and repeatable measurements, and are entirely developed and produced in-house.

We are looking for a talented PhD candidate who, in the framework of the Industrial PhD Programme of the Innovation Fund Denmark, will push the boundaries of fluid dynamics simulations, robust optimizations and their application to existing R&D projects. The project will be developed over 3 years, during which you will be part of the Flow Laboratory team in Kamstrup’s Group Quality Department and you will be included on an equal footing with engineers and researchers who are dedicated to ensure the highest accuracy of water and heat meters.

Industrial PhD in collaboration with Aarhus University
As industrial PhD you will be enrolled in the Doctoral School of Aarhus University. Aarhus University has been establishing itself as a university for cutting-edge research and has been regularly included in the top-100 Universities of the most important university ranking lists.

You will be a part of the Flow Physics and Turbulence research group at the Mechanical Engineering Section, where numerical modelling and analytical works are used to gain insights into the complex engineering and environmental systems and to develop advanced predictive tools for use in interdisciplinary applications. You will have the opportunity to disseminate results of the group through participating in conferences, workshops, and meetings related to your work.

The aim of the project is to develop a robust optimization tool combining computational fluid dynamics (CFD), optimization techniques and uncertainty quantification to obtain reliable and optimized flow meters design at a fast pace. To achieve the rapid development required in industrial applications the project will focus on the use of advanced mathematical and theoretical techniques rather than on huge computational resources.

Personality matters
We are seeking a candidate who is motivated to face challenges and find innovative solutions in a rapidly evolving company.

It is a requirement that you have:

• A Master’s degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering or physics with specialization in fluid mechanics or similar
• A very good theoretical as well as practical experience of CFD calculations, especially using OpenFOAM software
• Coding/scripting abilities will be seen as an advantage
• Prior knowledge of optimization techniques is advantageous but not necessary

You must ensure that you fulfil the acceptance criteria and grade requirements set by the Innovation Fund Denmark (section 2.3 of the Guidelines) and the Aarhus University Doctoral School, including documented English skills (please read here for more information.)

You are expected to take responsibility for the project and independently seek solutions to the issues that may arise along the way. As a person, you are capable of working independently with a sense for detail, while being open-minded and reliable in your daily work.

We offer more than just a job
We offer an exciting opportunity in an international and innovative organization that strives every day to ensure the momentum and optimization of the world's water, heating and energy resources.

We offer flexible working hours and numerous employee benefits, counting a healthy canteen, free fruit, fitness facilities, in-house dental clinic, hairdresser and a free health clinic. Moreover, we have an active employee association.

Do you want to be a part of Kamstrup?
Please submit your application by using the link below. Applications are reviewed on a continuous basis, and you can expect a response within six weeks.

The application must include transcripts and diploma(s) for both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.
