The Research Unit of Musculoskeletal Function and Physiotherapy, Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics, Campus Odense, invites applications for two postdoc positions focusing on developing an intervention for people living with multiple chronic conditions (MCCs). The positions will run for a period of two years from August 1, 2020, with the possibility of extension for one year for one postdoc position.

The positions are associated with the MOBILIZE project at Næstved-Slagelse-Ringsted Hospitals. The successful applicant will work from both Odense and Slagelse, and as the data collection will take place in Region Zealand, periods of the position will be spent in Region Zealand. The project aims to improve health in people with MCCs and investigates the effects of personalized exercise therapy and self-management in comparison with current best practice. The MOBILIZE project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program (grant agreement No 801790).

We are seeking highly motived applicants with proven track record of using quantitative and/or qualitative research skills. The successful applicants will work on the development of a complex intervention including exercise therapy and self-management. This process will require familiarity with the Medical Research Council (MRC) Framework for developing complex health interventions.

The applicants will have the possibility to co-lead a mixed-methods study using a participatory approach to intervention development and be part of an RCT investigating the effects of personalized exercise therapy and education program on clinical and patient-centered outcomes.

Applicants must hold a PhD degree with relevance for chronic conditions and multimorbidity and must have documented academic experience within this area. We welcome applicants with diverse research backgrounds, including, but not limited to physiotherapy, exercise physiology, health psychology, behavioural science, anthropology or medicine.

Applicants with proven experience in the following areas will be prioritized:

  • multimorbidity
  • systematic reviews and meta-analyses
  • randomized clinical trials
  • exercise therapy to improve health in people with chronic conditions
  • intervention development (guided by MRC framework) and implementation
  • qualitative methods (including focus groups)
  • using models of behaviour change
  • patient and public involvement

The Research Unit of Musculoskeletal Function and Physiotherapy was established in 2007 and consistently has 15-20 full and part-time staff and students. The research unit is part of the Center for Muscle and Joint Health consisting of about 50 researchers from different research units at University of Southern Denmark.

The successful applicants will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
