The Danish Institute for Advanced Study (D-IAS) seeks an outstanding candidate to fill a position at the Assistant Professor level in the field of Quantum Mathematics.

The position is sponsored by the Mads Clausen Institute (MCI) and starts 1.4.2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. MCI resides at the University of Southern Denmark in both Odense and Sønderborg. This position will be attached to The centre for Quantum Mathematics (QM) in Odense and the successful candidate is expected to participate in D-IAS activities in Odense on a regular basis.

The appointment is for four years with the possibility for a subsequent two years of employment as an Associate Professor.

The Centre for Quantum Mathematics at MCI hosts among other activities the ERC-Synergy Grant “Recursive and Exact New Quantum Theory” with QM centre director Jørgen Ellegaard Andersen as corresponding PI.

The successful candidate should hold a PhD degree related to one of the following areas: Any branch of mathematics with relevance to Quantum Mathematics, in particular including Algebra, algebraic geometry, differential geometry, algebraic topology, complex geometry, quantum topology, geometric analysis, operator algebra or mathematical physics. Candidates with a PhD-degree in Quantum engineering will also be considered, but it will further be required that they also have a strong mathematical background.

We offer a uniquely ambitious research environment to this particular position, and a position where options for tenure will be discussed during a third-year review. In addition, D-IAS offers the strongest possible support to applications for further external funding from prestigious national and European funding schemes, e.g., Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and ERC starting grants.

The successful candidate should have a strong international profile, a strong record of research publications, and have demonstrated exceptional potential to excel in scientific research.

We expect the applicants to actively engage in the development of the research unit as well as to contribute positively to D-IAS as a whole.

D-IAS
D-IAS aims to inspire ground-breaking ideas through the meeting of minds across the sciences and humanities. The D-IAS engages leading academics through its visitor program, weekly lectures, and quarterly colloquia. There is a strong focus on talent development of young researchers who work on game-changing ideas. Eminent academics are appointed as chairs, and in that capacity form the backbone of the D-IAS as they catalyze activities within their field.

Application, salary, etc.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information about salary and taxation.

Teaching obligations will be reduced, compared to a regular assistant professor position at SDU.

To qualify for the position as assistant professor you must have completed a PhD-degree by the application deadline.

  • Research and publication plan for the next three years.
