The Mads Clausen Institute at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor on – Future Manufacturing Systems.
The targeted starting date of the position is April 1st 2020. The position is located within the Section SDU Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation (TEI) at the Faculty of Engineering on the international campus Sønderborg. The section unites engineering, innovation management, and entrepreneurship scholars in joint research projects and teaching. TEI focuses on the technological innovation process, from ideation and prototyping, through production and operations management, to commercialization. SDU TEI is embedded in a region with a strong network of companies, including some of Denmark's largest global industrial players (i.e. Danfoss, Linak, Siemens, Vestas) and many manufacturing SMEs. Projects currently run by the group cover a range of cutting-edge topics within Smart Factory – Industry 4.0, digitalization, collaborative robots, and lean automation characterized by high mix low volume production. The group publishes in leading international journals on these topics, such as Journal of Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Journal of Assembly Automation, Journal of Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Journal of Manufacturing Systems etc. The SDU TEI section is a highly international and interdisciplinary group of 12 faculty members, with international students. The campus is in Sønderborg, an attractive maritime town with an open Scandinavian culture and affordable housing and living costs. For more information on SDU TEI, please visit www.sdu.dk/tei. The successful candidate must have a background in engineering, preferably in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical or computer science, with insight in mechatronics or video game development. This is decisive to build up simulation models and to integrate these with real facilities in the lab or by industrial partners to research the digital twin approach. We expect the research to grow within digitalized production as part of Future Manufacturing Systems, where computer simulation and virtual reality are important design tools. The candidate will get the opportunity to shape this development together with the team and develop and implement research-project ideas with a regional focus and impact. Job description Successful candidates will drive internationally competitive research, work closely with industry and attract competitive external research funding. The candidates will play a key role in providing outstanding education, supervise students and develop junior research staff. The candidate must have a strong theoretical background in combination with practical skills and experience in building up lab facilities for testing. The candidate must be a team player and at the same time able to work independently. The successful candidate is active in publishing in engineering journals. The candidate must have a relevant PhD. The ideal candidate has knowledge, skills and competences in:Design and operation of Manufacturing Systems PLM software tools CAD, CAE, CAM, PDM Automation solutions combining technology and humans e.g. Collaborative Robotics Computer simulation, preferably within Siemens PLM with Tecnomatix Plant Simulation and Process Simulate/Robot Expert Digital twins from design to operation IT control architectures ERP, MES, Scada, PLC, CNC
