The Centre for Industrial Electronics (CIE), part of the Mads Clausen Institute and the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark in Sønderborg, invites applications for a position as research assistant to strengthen our competences in the field of battery management and charge management applied in electrification projects as of 1 June 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful candidate will be working on research and development projects in the field of electrification, specifically on intelligent battery management and charge management systems to be used in system electrification. One specific project focuses on the electrification of a transport refrigeration unit (TRU), applied in semi-trailers. The goal of the project is to develop and demonstrate a reefer trailer for road transport, which is driven by rechargeable batteries instead of a diesel engine. This will help the transport sector to switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy, thus lowering CO2 and particle emission from road transport of refrigerated goods. As part of the project, the successful candidate, will be setting up a prototype of the battery and charge management system, evaluate the performance of the system and implement an intelligent battery management system, which operates the battery with respect to some predetermined optimisation goals such as e.g. battery lifetime prolongation. We offer the chance to actively involve in related research and development projects in the field of intelligent systems for electrification or change management for electric vehicles as well as industry cooperation projects. We further offer, as part of the position, to actively get involve in students supervision of B.Sc. and M.Sc. students. At CIE, research, education and innovation are performed in teams of scientists and support staff with competences spanning a wide range of fields including power electronics, control engineering, embedded systems and intelligent systems. Requirements and qualifications:

- Master or PhD degree in engineering - Experience with battery management and/or charge management systems - Experience with embedded system architectures - Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and in a team with researchers from different disciplines. - Good communication skills in English. The Mads Clausen Institute covers research and education spanning from foundations to applications of engineering science. Most of our courses are taught in English reflecting the fact that more than half our students and staff are internationals. The Centre for Industrial Electronics (CIE) is located at SDU's beautiful campus in Sønderborg, in the inspiring building of Alsion, which is a centre for science, culture and learning in the heart of Sønderborg and perched on the strait of water separating the island of Als from the mainland. The university has very close relations to industries in Sønderborg, Southern Denmark and Northern Germany. A significant fraction of the projects in CIE are conducted in close cooperation with these industries, which count world-leading companies in growing fields such as e-mobility, automation, climate solutions and energy efficient electrification.

The Centre for Industrial Electronics (CIE) at University of Southern Denmark (SDU) was established by a strong partnership between industry, academia and regional authorities. CIE is located at the campus of SDU Sønderborg and surrounded by a vibrant industrial environment. Conditions of employment
Employment as a research assistent requires scientific qualifications at graduate level. Employment as a research assistent is temporary and will cease without further notice at the end of the period. The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
