Sønderborg

We are an international research group working in the field of organic and hybrid solar cells (SDU NanoSYD OPV group), which are looking for highly motivated postdoc(s) to join our research team at University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Sønderborg, working on development of new transparent photovoltaics with high average visible transmittance via the new EU H2020 consortium CITYSOLAR. The position(s) is available as soon as possible.

The postdoc position(s) is a part of the newly established and exciting H2020 project CITYSOLAR, led by Prof. Aldo di Carlo, which aims to develop the next-generation transparent photovoltaics for windows, focusing on novel organic-hybrid perovskite tandem solar cells and modules with high power conversion efficiencies (15%), and high average visible transmittance (AVT). The work is conducted by an international consortium of leading academic (CNR - Institute of Structure of Matter (ISM), FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Tor Vergata University of Rome, CNRS - The Institut Photovoltaïque d’Île-de-France (IPVF)) and industrial (ENI, EDF, Hglass) partners, together with two non-EU partners (Brilliant Matters, KAUST) belonging to Mission Innovation countries.

We seek postdoc candidates to work on metal-oxide material systems utilized for light management structures, such as distributed Bragg reflectors, in the transparent tandem photovoltaic devices, as well as for photovoltaics transparent oxide electrodes and interlayers. The research and development work will include sputter deposition on small and large scale (Roll-to-Roll, R2R) sputter systems, with detailed tuning of film composition, oxygen vacancy levels, microstructure etc., along with various in-depth characterization of the metal-oxide thin films and interfaces. It will also include integration in full organic and hybrid solar cells and modules to realize the transparent photovoltaic devices. To finalize the tandem photovoltaic devices and prototypes, novel lamination techniques are employed.
If you want to work at the forefront of the development of new photovoltaic technologies, especially novel routes and strategies to obtain high efficiency transparent photovoltaics, and work with an international leading team of experts in these fields, this position may be ideal for you!

At the Organic Photovoltaics (OPV) group led by Professor WSR Morten Madsen at SDU NanoSYD, SDU campus Sønderborg, the focus is on development of new thin film photovoltaic devices with improved performance and device stability, by synthesis and in-depth studies of photovoltaic materials, thin films and importantly their interfaces in the solar cell devices. The group has full access to an ISOS5 cleanroom, a surface science laboratory facility for the full preparation and characterization of thin films and solar cell devices, and a complete roll-to-roll facility for thin film and device upscaling.

We are searching for postdoc candidates that aim to and can develop own research ideas and carry out advanced research studies in the above areas, who can work together in a competitive research team, and can communicate scientific results in leading, high-ranked research journals. We offer fully funded postdoc position(s) for the duration of minimum two years.

Candidates who have a previous PhD degree in a field relevant to the mentioned project may seek the position. Preferred candidates have: a strong background in applied physics/materials science, experience in metal-oxide thin film growth by e.g. sputter deposition, experience in fabrication and testing of electrical thin film devices and materials, e.g. thin film solar cells. Candidates are expected to hold relevant publications on these topics. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the work, the candidate(s) is expected to have excellent collaboration skills. A very good capability of communicating scientific results in English, both orally and in writing is required. Research visits at the collaborating partners should be expected.
