SDU Mechatronics and the Centre of Industrial Mechanics, part of the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark in Sønderborg, invites applications for a position as full professor in mechatronics control engineering. The starting date is negotiable.
Unique opportunity
The Centre for Industrial Mechanics is a newly established centre focusing on mechanics in combination with mechatronics. You have the unique opportunity to be a part of the new centre and influence the development of the centre. We are in the process of building up a mechanical engineering degree and labs to support the educational activities and the research.
Workplace description
The Department of Mechanical and Electrical engineering covers research and education spanning from fundamentals to applications of engineering science. All our courses are taught in English reflecting the fact that more than half our students and staff are internationals. The Centre for Industrial Mechanics is located at SDU's beautiful campus in Sønderborg, in the inspiring building of Alsion, which is a centre for science, culture and learning in the heart of Sønderborg and perched on the strait of water separating the island of Als from the mainland. The university has very close relations to the industry in Sønderborg, Southern Denmark and Northern Germany. A significant fraction of the projects in the centre are conducted in close cooperation with the industry, which count world leading companies in growing fields such as e-mobility, automation, climate solutions and energy efficiency.
At the Centre for Industrial Mechanics, research, education and innovation are performed in teams of scientists and support staff with competences spanning a wide range of fields including applied cyber-physical systems, advanced mechanical systems, modelling and mechatronic prototyping.
To complement our team, we are looking for a full professor in control engineering, preferably with experience in one or more of the following fields
The candidate is expected to be able to lead a research group within control engineering, establish industrial and academic contacts and lead the control research at the centre towards international top level.

Conditions of employment
Employment as a full professor is a permanent position according to “funktionærloven” and requires scientific qualifications at PhD level.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
The assessment process
The position is subject to an academic assessment by an external expert committee. The committee’s assessment is binding regarding the level of qualification and cannot be overridden by the employment committee. Read about the Assessment and selection process.

- Nonlinear control
- Control of autonomous vehicles
- Navigation and path planning
- Control of mechatronic systems
- State and parameter estimation
The candidate is expected to be able to lead a research group within control engineering, establish industrial and academic contacts and lead the control research at the centre towards international top level.
The candidate must have:
- PhD degree in control engineering or related fields
- Great abilities in teaching engineering or physics curricula
- Excellent track record in research and development, including research and industrial funding
- Team and project management, leadership experience
- Good communication skills in English
