SDU Mechatronics and the Centre of Industrial Mechanics, part of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark in Sønderborg, invites applications for a research fellow position as Postdoc in embedded AI. Starting date is negotiable, preferably 2nd quarter of 2024.

Workplace description

The Department of Mechanical and Electrical engineering covers research and education spanning from fundamentals to applications of engineering science. All our courses are taught in English reflecting the fact that more than half our students and staff are internationals. The Centre for Industrial Mechanics is located at SDU's beautiful campus in Sønderborg, in the inspiring building of Alsion, which is a center for science, culture and learning in the heart of Sønderborg and perched on the strait of water separating the island of Als from the mainland. The university has very close relations to the industry in Sønderborg, Southern Denmark and Northern Germany. A significant fraction of the projects in the center are conducted in close cooperation with the industry, which count world leading companies in growing fields such as e-mobility, automation, climate solutions and energy efficiency.

At the Centre for Industrial Mechanics, research, education, and innovation are performed in teams of scientists and support staff with competences spanning a wide range of fields including applied cyber-physical systems, artificial intelligence, embedded computing, mechanical structure integrity and life assessment, heating and cooling, renewable energy systems, and modelling and mechatronic prototyping.

The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate his/her ambition to conduct high-quality research, present the results at international conferences, and publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals. We expect the candidate to take part in selected teaching activities.

Project Description

Candidate Profile:

To complement our team, we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher in Artificial Intelligence with experience in two or more of the following fields:

Embedded Computing

AI on Chip

Large Language Model on Device

Low Precision Artificial Intelligence

Quantized LLM

Machine Learning for Embedded Hardware/Software architecture

The candidate is expected to collaborate with industrial partners and other universities, perform research work on externally funded projects, as well as be involved with on-site manufacturing facilities and testing laboratories.

Conditions of employment

Employment is a 1-year temporary position as postdoc. The employment will cease without further notice at the end of the period. However, given appropriate finances, the possibility for contract extension is available depending on the candidate’s performance.

Research will be predominant in the position. Teaching assignments can be agreed individually. Furthermore, other types of assignments may occur.

The faculty determines the distribution of the various assignments. The weighting of the different assignments may vary over time.

The application must be in English and must include:

  • Detailed CV including list of publications, awards, with potential start date,
  • A description of your vision and your research plan on the field of this post (a high quality one-page A4 document). This document will be a key element for the decision process towards recruitment,
  • Motivation letter,
  • E-mail and contact information for at least two references,
  • Certificates/Diplomas (MSc and PhD).

The application deadline is February 28th, 2024 at 23.59.

Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the faculty. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. An interview will be part of the assessment process with selected candidates. Once the recruitment process is completed, a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.
