Key responsabilities
The European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI) invites applications for a Researcher (TV-L 11, 100%) for research on national minority issues in Europe broadly defined. The ECMI is an international, multi-disciplinary research and competence institution, working on national minority issues in Europe. Across six thematic Clusters, our research agenda tackles the full range of issues facing national minorities in contemporary Europe. The Centre is looking to fill a research position recently left vacant and without any specific thematic focus. Novel, cutting edge research themes are therefore encouraged, or as early-career scholarly projects. While the general thematic scope is open, applicants are encouraged to think about possible synergies with one or more of the existing Clusters, including more direct collaboration with one or another Head of Cluster.

The ECMI is an international, multi-disciplinary research and competence institution, working with governments, civil society, the academic community, and international organisations on minority issues in Europe. We aim to provide governments and the public with relevant research and analysis about national minorities as well as to influence the European agenda on minority affairs. The Centre offers a multicultural, English-language working environment with varied tasks and opportunities for professional advancement. Our management structure is flat with a high degree of autonomy in research work.

- Conduct high-quality, independent and collaborative research within the programme of the Centre (60%)
- Collaborate with Senior Researchers and the Director on Centre activities such as workshops, publications, dissemination efforts, public events, etc. (20%)
- Assist with project implementation and administration (20%)
Professional requirements
- A relevant MA/MSc within the social sciences or humanities.
- A strong motivation to work on national minority issues in Europe.
- Very good communication and presentation skills and an ability to work in a team.
- A strong command of English as the working language of ECMI.
- A strong command of Danish and German is an asset.
- Prior research or other work experience with national minorities is an asset.

- a cover letter (explaining their background and motivation),
- a curriculum vitae (including prior research experience)
- a two-page (1000-word) statement describing a possible research theme to be carried out during the two-year employment period. The plan should situate the topic conceptually, describe eventual empirical work (research design), and give an indication as to the expected output form (publication and/or other dissemination activities).
