København

Are you interested in learning about risk and compliance management and how an international NGO functions? We are looking for a student to assist the Commercial Contract and Consortia Advisor in the Safety, Risk & Compliance Secretariat in DRC’s Operations Department. You will work closely with the Commercial Contract and Consortia Advisor and other colleagues across DRC – both at HQ in Copenhagen and in our operations around the world.

Who are we?

The Danish Refugee Council, DRC, is one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs working in around 40 countries worldwide. DRC’s mission is to ensure a dignified life for refugees by providing assistance, protection, and promoting durable solutions for internally displaced people and communities affected by displacement. DRC has nearly 9,000 staff worldwide dedicated to ensuring the rights of displaced people.

Safety, Risk & Compliance supports DRC to pursue opportunities and organisational objectives in a manner where identified risks are managed, thus keeping the organisation, its people and assets safe from harm. The Commercial Contract and Consortia Advisor works on strengthening DRC’s capacity for working in multi-partner consortia and in bidding for and implementing commercial contracts. This requires the development of guidance and compliance tools, as well as advisory and training of colleagues.

Job description

DRC must regularly respond to due diligence requests from other organisations and must also carry out due diligence assessments of potential partners. To improve efficiency, DRC wants to systematise and streamline these assessments. DRC is also in the process of reviewing its own due diligence assessment tools used on potential partners. Your main tasks will be related to the development of a system for organising the standard questions asked and ensuring that the answers are easily accessible, up-to-date and correctly based on DRC’ policies and procedures. When country operations need assistance with due diligence, you will coordinate the process at HQ level. In addition, you will assist with the review and development of DRC’s due diligence assessment tool for INGOs and private sector partners, as well as other compliance tools and some ad hoc administrative tasks. Most work is conducted in English. The tasks will include, but not be limited to:

  • In collaboration with colleagues, defining a system (for example, a spreadsheet or a database) for storing and searching for questions and answers posed in connection with due diligence, and ultimately develop the system
  • Collecting and systematising due diligence assessments from our country operations
  • Collecting relevant DRC policies and, in collaboration with relevant DRC colleagues, drafting and ensuring that answers to due diligence questions are up-to-date and correct
  • Assisting with due diligence assessment requests from country operations
  • Assisting with the ongoing revision and development of other compliance tools, such as DRC’s own due diligence assessment tool
  • Assist with development and maintaining our intranet and SharePoint sites for consortia and commercial contracts
  • Supporting the rollout of compliance policies, procedures, tools, and training
  • Other ad hoc tasks

Work hours will be 15 hours per week, but the timing will be flexible and adaptable to your study schedule.
