MSF Denmark is looking for a student assistant (15 hours) to help us develop and coordinate our volunteer work and groups. The student assistant will be based in MSF Denmark’s Advocacy and Analysis Department (AAU).

The student assistant will be responsible for coordinating our five volunteer groups with the support of the AAU team. This includes supporting recruitment, capacity building and ongoing communication with the volunteers and volunteer groups. Furthermore, the student assistant will provide support to concrete events and activities of the groups, ensuring close alignment and synergies between the groups and the MSF Secretariat.

MSF Denmark presently has five volunteer groups in Aalborg, Aarhus, Odense, Holbæk and Copenhagen with around 100 dedicated, engaged, and active volunteers. The volunteer groups work to engage the public in their local community, organise events, raise awareness and educate about MSF’s work and key humanitarian and health agendas.

The student assistant will also contribute to advancing MSF’s advocacy priorities in Denmark with the aim to create lasting impacts and improvements for MSF patients in the most vulnerable situations globally.

Core responsibilities and tasks

Ongoing coordination and planning

  • Support the coordination of MSF DK Volunteer groups, including regular communication with group coordinators as well as facilitation of monthly online meetings with group coordinators; the annual volunteer weekend and meetings of different thematic volunteer composed working groups, including the Mother’s Day group and the Missing Maps Network.

  • Support the annual planning, budget and reporting of volunteer groups, including supporting them in preparing their annual calendars, keeping the joint calendar up to date and ensuring coordination with the MSF Secretariat and MSF Live event team around joint activities.

  • Assist groups in scanning their local calendar for upcoming events and opportunities for engagement MSF volunteers. Scan and find inspiration and ideas for potential volunteer activities nationally and internationally, both within MSF as well as other NGOs.

  • Work closely with the MSF Live team to create user friendly and relevant content for the volunteer group events (event toolkits and digital materials), ensuring alignment to MSF’s main advocacy agendas.

  • Be the lead person to ensure ongoing information sharing between MSF Denmark Secretariat and the volunteer groups – and linking the volunteer groups to relevant colleagues in all of MSF Denmark.

Inspire and build a vision for volunteers

  • Develop and facilitate a review process of the volunteer work, vision, and procedures, together with representatives from all MSF Denmark departments as well as the volunteer groups and Association to set an up to date and ambitious direction for MSF Denmark’s volunteer work going forward.

  • Support consultation and support amongst the larger volunteer group network country-wide via the annual volunteer meeting and providing opportunities for connection via cross-group interactions to learn from each other.

Mobilization and training of volunteers

  • Support the recruitment and training of new volunteers when needed, but also the mobilization and nursing of existing ones. This also entails developing and facilitating training, mentoring, and learning activities for volunteers.

  • Drive processes to raise awareness and ensure a culture, tools and processes that are actively supporting DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) in all MSF Denmark’s work with volunteers and incorporated in their internal and external communication and events.

Others

  • Contribute to implementation of the MSF Denmark Strategic Orientations as well as the AAU strategy 2021- 2023 in cooperation with AAU team members.

  • Contribute actively to a positive teamwork /spirit and problem solving as an integrated team member in the AAU and MSF Denmark.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree completed or in the final part of the Bachelor’s degree, preferably in relevant study field such as Global Health, Medicine, Human Rights, Development Studies, Political Science, Social Science, HR, project management or the like.
  • Prior experience as a volunteer and/or working with coordination of volunteers
  • NGO experience and interest in global health and humanitarian work

Experiences and Competences

  • Belief in MSF’s core values
  • Collaborative skills and passion about working with many different groups and stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills with respectful and inclusive approach to volunteers and people
  • Creative mindset and experience in planning and executing events together with volunteers
  • Able to work sometimes in the evening and weekend for given volunteer activities
  • Skills as facilitator and trainer with a particular focus on volunteer mobilization, capacity-building, and support.
